Trump is Protected by the DOJ OLC Memo & Barr. But Who Polices Barr, Pompeo, Pence, etc.? Anyone?
We all know that the geniuses at the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel think the founders of our republic believed that a criminal president can not be arrested, indicted and prosecuted while in office.
This position is, in a word, absurd. Still, justice for Trump’s crimes will have to await January when we have a law-abiding President and a law-enforcing Attorney General. However, the OLC memo does NOT prohibit the indictment of a sitting criminal Attorney General or a siting criminal Secretary of State or other criminal cabinet members.
The problem: given that the executive branch polices the executive branch, and given who and what Bill Barr is, there is little hope of criminal executive branch official being held accountable for their crimes unless the FBI is on the job . . . Here is a discussion of the challenges of an agency policing its own wrong-doing.
