COVID-19 vaccine ‘ethically compromised’
The Ethic Centre’s Dr Simon Longstaff AO says the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, developed using cell lines from a previously electively aborted foetus, is deeply problematic for those who believe all human life is sacred.
The COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Oxford University is proving an ethical dilemma for some as it uses cell lines from an electively aborted foetus.
An elective abortion is one that is carried out for no medical reason.
Dr Longstaff said the Oxford Vaccine was developed using the human foetal cell line HEK-293 which comes from human embryonic kidney cells from an elective abortion in the 1970s.
“For some people, notably those who believe that all human life is sacred, the notion that they might be deriving some sort of benefit from such a source is deeply problematic and some would say, even against their conscience,” he said.
